My Story
I was born and raised in Beloit, Wisconsin. I initially got interested in hiking as a kid while going on camping trips with my Dad, mainly to various state parks in Wisconsin. I got my first taste of the mountains on a family trip to Montana when I was in middle school. I really started to love the mountains on subsequent family trips to Estes Park CO, Lake Tahoe CA, and Whistler BC. I moved to Madison, Wisconsin when I was 18 where I attended the University of Wisconsin. My studies occupied most of my time for the next few years, but I still made time during the summers to make trips to Devils Lake State Park, as well as Peninsula and Potawatomie State Parks in Door County.
When I was 23 I made one of the best decisions of my life and moved to San Diego, California. I didn’t move for work or school, I moved simply because I wanted to. For the first couple years I mainly did the popular hikes in San Diego County, like Potato Chip, Iron Mountains, Three Sisters, etc. It was in 2018 where I really found my passion for climbing peaks. I started with the higher peaks in the county like Hot Springs, Cuyamaca, and Palomar. I then started to climb the true giants of Southern California like San Jacinto and San Gorgonio. That winter, I really fell in love with the desert as well, making various trips to Anza Borrego, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley. Now, I’ve been spending my time working on various Sierra Club peaks lists, as well as others such as Andy Zdon’s list of desert summits.
